30 Most Popular Types of Coffee

Hey, Did you know what are the most popular types of coffee in the world? Which is your favorite one? Well, take a look and find out! Most people love having several cups of coffee every day, but it's quite difficult to decide which type we like best. That's why we decided to make a list of the 30 most popular types of coffees in the world. From cappuccino and latte macchiato, through americano and espresso, until decaffeinated ones - you're bound to find something that fits your taste! Let's see what they are all about:

#1 Cafe O'Brien

This drink is very popular in the US and consists of a caffe latte with some crushed ice poured into it. It's an unbelievably refreshing beverage that will definitely be a big hit during this year's summer :) To order one you need to say "I'd like a cafe O’Brien, please."

#2 Cappuccino

Coffee that has been cut with about equal parts of steamed milk and foam. It consists of 1/3 espresso, 1/3 steamed milk, and 1/3 foamed milk topped with cocoa powder or cinnamon. Perfect for breakfast time especially if it's made with whole milk instead of cream!

#3 Macchiato

A variation of cappuccino where only the top layer is foamed milk while the rest is just heated milk making it an ideal after-dinner drink.

#4 Latte

Latte is a coffee drink made from espresso and hot milk, which can be either steamed or foamed – that's where the difference comes from. If you want to have a latte at home – just follow our instructions. Brew espresso and pour it into a mug (or something similar).

Decorate with milk – we recommend using a steam wand, but if you don't have one – just put the milk in the microwave for about 30 seconds.

Finally, make some pretty patterns on top of your latte. We used chocolate syrup and cinnamon powder.

And here you have a latte – enjoy!

#5 Americano

Made with 1/3 espresso and 2/3 hot water – Americano is a great choice for people who don't like drinking too much caffeine after lunchtime.

#6 Lungo

Lungo simply means "long" in Italian - so it's an Americano without the water added to it. In other words, lungo has double the amount of caffeine as compared to regular coffee! But if you need your caffeine, why not double your pleasure? :)

#7 Flat white

This is a latte made with micro foamed milk instead of steamed milk. To be more specific flat white contains twice as much steamed milk than frothed or microfoam. And it's still espresso-based which makes it another great choice for breakfast time!

#8 Piccolo Latte

Piccolo means "small" in Italian just like lungo, Americano, and latte – so you can easily guess what this drink is all about. It consists of 1/3 espresso, 1/3 frothed or steamed milk, and 1/3 foamed milk on the top. Perfect for those who want to have some caffeine but they don't like it too strongly.

#9 Macchiato con Panna (or: how to order a "Dirty Mac")

To be more specific – this drink is made from 1/3 espresso, 2/3 foamed milk, and 1 tablespoon of cream on the top. If you see macchiato con Panna on the menu – what you probably want to order is a Caffe macchiato with whipped cream!

#10 Cortado

Cortado can be translated as "cut" in Spanish just like Americano, lungo, and flat white – which means… it's an espresso cut with milk. You might think that cortado should contain more steamed or frothed milk than an Americano, but it's about an equal amount in a cortado.

#11 Ristretto

Just like all the other types so far, this one too is made from a very concentrated shot of espresso only that the amount of water used to make it is significantly less. As a result, you get an even stronger coffee with more caffeine in it!

#12 Caffe Mocha / Cappuccino Freddo con Cioccolata / Frozen Chocolate Espresso

To be more specific Caffe mocha consists of 1/3 espresso, 1/3 hot chocolate, and 1/3 steamed milk topped with whipped cream or cocoa powder. This drink is usually served cold making cappuccino freddo con cioccolata.

Now you have a chance to test your knowledge and try not to get confused when the barista asks what you want! May the force be with you! ;)

#13 Cafe Bombon

This one is not exactly a type of coffee but more like a special way, it's being served in Japan. It consists of 1/3 espresso, 1/3 hot milk, and 1/3 block of brown sugar syrup or sweetened condensed milk which makes it taste very sweet.

Just remember that caffeine levels are different in each type of coffee so you should definitely always specify how much caffeine you need. For example, an espresso cortado or macchiato con Panna has less caffeine than a Caffe mocha even if they all look the same!

#14 Cafe Bombon

As you see cafe bombon contains lots of sweet syrup making it ideal for people who are into desserts instead of coffee - just order this drink but ask them to make it a latte with less syrup! :) Or you can always ask for a little bit of extra hot milk.

#15 Caffelatte

Another classic Italian coffee drink made from 1/3 espresso, 2/3 steamed or frothed milk, and 1 tablespoon of milk foam on top. As an alternative, caffelatte is also served cold in Summertime - so keep that in mind when ordering this one next time you want to have some caffeine! ;)

#16 Cafe Con Leche

We would say that this Colombian coffee drink is the "mother" of all espresso-based drinks. It's made from 1/3 espresso, 2/3 steamed or frothed milk, and 1 tablespoon of sweetened condensed milk on top. As you see it contains an equal amount of both types of milk - so if your stomach can't handle whole milk just ask for half-and-half instead! :)

#17 Cafe Breve

Finally, a type of mocha that has no chocolate in it whatsoever! It's simply made from 1/3 espresso, 2/3 steamed or frothed milk, and 1 tablespoon of heavy cream on top… definitely one of my favorites!

#18 Marocchino

A modern twist on the traditional cappuccino which consists of 1/3 espresso, 1/3 steamed milk, and 3 tablespoons of chocolate shavings. Make sure to ask for 2-3 extra tablespoons of chocolate if you prefer your coffee sweet! ;-)

#19 Cafe Con Miel

This is a very popular drink in Israel but it might be hard to run into it when traveling around the world due to its unique combination - which basically consists of 1/2 espresso, .5 dash of cinnamon, and steamed or frothed milk topped with honey. Even though you can buy this drink ready-made at any coffee shop I would recommend trying to make it yourself as well because that way you can adjust the amount of cinnamon to your liking!

#20 Cafe Americano

In case you love your coffee to be weak and watery this is exactly what you should order next time. Simply put, a cafe americano is nothing more than 1/3 espresso diluted with 2/3 hot water or ice. If you still want some caffeine in it I would recommend asking for an extra two shots - which will make it taste much better! :)

#21 Latte Macchiato

This is another classic Italian coffee drink with its origins dating back to the early 20th century when somebody came up with the idea of serving cappuccino but with milk (latte) stirred into it (macchiato). As you see if you ask for this drink you'll actually get a glimpse of how the coffee looked like back in the days! To order one just say: "I'd like a Caffe macchiato, please."

#22 Cafe Con Dulce De Leche

This is an Argentinean coffee drink made by adding caramelized sweetened condensed milk into hot espresso while making sure to leave some space on top. It's just the perfect thing to keep your hands warm when it's cold outside! :)

#23 Cafe Bombon Corretto

If you love your coffee strong and with lots of alcohol then this is exactly what you should go for next time - since bombon corretto (Italian-style) literally means "coffee with added booze". Usually, it's made from 3 shots of espresso and 2 shots of grappa (Italian grape-based pomace brandy) - but you can always ask the barista to make it with less if it's too strong for your taste!

#24 Cafe Sucre

A French version of cafe au lait is made by adding brown sugar into hot steamed or frothed milk. This way we end up with a very sweet and tasty drink - and as an extra bonus, it'll also give you some energy boost before hitting the beach in Summertime! ;)

#25 Cafe De Olla

If you live in Mexico this coffee drink is definitely one for you since it's served at pretty much every single coffee shop out there. It's basically a type of sweetened coffee that is made from 1/3 espresso, 2/3 steamed or frothed milk, and lots of cinnamon on top. Make sure to ask for an extra dash if you want it even spicier :)

#26 Cafe Con Pan

If you're a huge fan of breakfast and all things sweet (just like me) then this is absolutely something for you. A cafe con pan consists of 1 small brioche roll cut in half and dipped into hot espresso while some sugar or honey can be added on top as well for more sweetness!

#27 Flat White

This may not be the most popular drink out there but I believe that its popularity will keep growing in the upcoming years - just look at how many celebrities have been seen drinking it lately! To order one simply ask the barista to make you a double ristretto espresso with hot micro-foamed milk.

#28 Cafe Com Leite T

his is basically an even sweeter version of cafe com Leche but instead of adding milk - you are adding condensed milk which makes it taste much better. So if you prefer things that are on the sweeter side then go for this one next time! :)

#29 Cafe Au Mandarin

A French-style cafe au mandarin is a perfect thing to order in Summer because its fresh orange peel will definitely give you some energy boost for beach time :) To order one, just say "I'd like a cafe au mandarin, please."

#30 Affogato

This Italian espresso-based dessert beverage can help you end any meal in style - especially if it already comes with some vanilla ice cream on top. To order this drink simply say "I'd like an affogato, please."

And this concludes our list of 30 different coffee drinks from around the world! I hope you have found some inspiration here and will try a few of them out on your next visit to a local coffee shop. And as a final note, just keep in mind that there are literally thousands more different types of drinks that can be made from espresso - so don't be afraid to experiment with it yourself every now and then :)
